«Walking Dead» synchro screwed up? Reference to Commonwealth twist is missing in the German version of season 11 — series news

Josh Stringer/AMC

The new episode of the eleventh and final season of » The Walking Dead » is all about the possible expansion plans of the Commonwealth, about which Governor Pamela Milton ( Laila Robins ) and her deputy Lance Hornsby ( Josh Hamilton ) don’t quite agree. While Lance plans to forge alliances with the well-known Walking Dead communities of Alexandria, Hilltop, and Oceanside, Pamela is skeptical about the benefits of partnering with such small and distant settlements for the vast Commonwealth, given that Hilltop and Oceanside have so far been separated resist an agreement.

Lance, however, does not want to give up the project so easily and, despite her doubts, gets permission from Pamela to continue to strive for Hilltop and Oceanside — whereby his failure, according to the governor, would have consequences for his position in the Commonwealth. And in the very conversation in which she formulates this, she also hints that there is far more to her relationship with Lance than a mere coincidental collaboration in the leadership of the Commonwealth. The annoying thing about it: In German, this possible information is completely lost…

Are Pamela and Lance related?

In the German dubbed version, Pamela admits to her counterpart: «You ‘ve always been very ambitious, Lance.» So far, so cliché. In fact, the original version is more exciting, in which it says: «You’ve been ambitious our whole lives , Lance.»

The German version only suggests that Pamela and Lance have known each other for a while, which is not too surprising given the zombie apocalypse that has lasted for several years. In this context, the phrase «always» sounds more like referring to a long, but not lifelong period of time, not least because the two use a distanced address.

On the other hand, the wording in the English original allows the conclusion that the two have actually known each other their whole lives and probably even grew up together. And that could mean that Pamela and Lance are at least old childhood friends, and more likely related (because their relationship really doesn’t seem exactly friendly)! Are they possibly cousins? Or maybe even siblings?

In that case, the German synchro would probably be double and also retrospectively screwed up for several episodes, the two would hardly use their first names if they were actually related — unless they wanted to keep it a secret from those around them. Maybe the local dubbing studios have just been left in the dark about what possible twist the “Walking Dead” creators have up their sleeves on Pamela and Lance. The «you» was perhaps felt to be more appropriate for the relationship between the two characters during the localization.

Disappointment like «Game Of Thrones»? The finale of «The Walking Dead» is heading for a big problem!

However, the different surnames of Pamela (Milton) and Lance (Hornsby) speak against the sibling theory under certain circumstances, but as the story about Stephanie/Shira/Max has just shown, one should not always pay too much attention to the names of people in the Commonwealth give a lot. There could be any number of reasons why Lance has adopted a different name — from sheer secrecy to hinted at past political scandals in the Milton family.

We may already learn more about this in the four remaining episodes of «The Walking Dead» Season 11B, which are released Monday mornings on ProSieben Fun and Disney + .

So much is already certain for us: Even if it turns out that Pamela and Lance are related, the latter shouldn’t dissuade from his teased fantasies of power. So it looks like the shady Commonwealth No. 2 is slowly emerging as the big villain of Season 11 of The Walking Dead , secretly striving for leadership. In any case, with his ominous machinations and as a possible future leader of the new Commonwealth partner communities, he could lay the foundation for defying Pamela and ultimately even overthrowing her.
