Anyone who thought that Corona was over and that the coming theatrical releases were also certain will be taught otherwise by the Warner film studio. We received the news of several postponements by the deadline – so far the data only relates to the USA, but the new German dates will certainly be very similar.
That means: fans will have to wait longer for most DC films and the expected cinema duel of the blockbusters “ Avatar 2 ” and “ Aquaman 2 ” will fall (sorry for the wording and info!) into the water. Just ” Shazam! Fury Of The Gods is being brought forward from June 2023 to December 16, 2022 and is now up against the most anticipated film of the year. The shifts at a glance (US dates):
” DC League of Super-Pets ” is rescheduled from May 20, 2022 to July 29, 2022
” Black Adam ” is rescheduled from July 29, 2022 to October 21, 2022
” The Flash ” is moved from November 4, 2022 to June 23, 2023
” Aquaman 2 ” is delayed from December 16, 2022 to March 17, 2023
” Wonka ” is moved from March 17, 2023 to December 15, 2023
Meg 2: The Trench now has a release date and will hit theaters on August 4, 2023 .
The problem: the many visual effects
According to the industry magazine Deadline , the reason for the postponements has nothing to do with the competition between James Cameron’s “Avatar 2” (starting in Germany on December 14, 2022) and James Wan’s “Aquaman 2”. Instead, Covid is said to be to blame again: A whole series of blockbusters have accumulated, which now all have to be supplied with visual effects at once and the companies responsible are apparently simply not able to keep up.
You have to know that the working conditions in the effects industry are supposed to be bad anyway. Even before Corona, there were complaints about the high workload. Even back then, despite a lot of overtime, it was almost impossible to keep up with generating the many computer effects that are shown in current comic adaptations – and over the years there have been more and more per film.
