In the 1990s, Steven Seagal was one of the most popular hit stars thanks to action hits like «Marked for Killing», «Nico» or «Red Alert». The descent from the Arnold Schwarzenegger competition to the boring C-Movie then followed in the early 2000s in an extremely rapid manner. In the meantime, Seagal has not only doubled his body size, his direct-to-DVD hits like «Code Of Honour», «Contract To Kill» or «Attrition», produced in Eastern Europe for little money, are almost unwatchable junk goods from the bottom drawer.
We have to advise you against » Ticker «, which will be broadcast on Tele 5 today, March 10th at 8:15 p.m., for two reasons. On the one hand, the action thriller by «Cyborg» maker Albert Pyun is only shown cut due to its FSK 16 rating. Secondly, the film is so bad that it really hurts! In any case, with «Ticker» it became more than clear where Steven Seagal’s career is going to develop.
If you are pain-free and still decide to watch «Ticker», you should grab the unabridged DVD, which you can currently order from Amazon, for example. A Blu-ray of the action thriller is not yet available in Germany. But it doesn’t need it either.

That’s what «Ticker» is about
As luck would have it, Detective Ray Nettles ( Tom Sizemore ) and his partner Art “Fuzzy” Rice ( Nas ) , who have been ruthlessly sidelined by their superiors, come across the hiding place of bomb maker Alex Swan ( Dennis Hopper ). When a shootout ensues, young Fuzzy dies while Nettles survives only because he uses Swan’s friend Claire ( Jaime Pressly ) as a shield.
This is how B-movie icon Steven Seagal drove an entire Hollywood studio crazy!
Swan then flees and Nettles is left with the mysterious woman, who refuses to make any statements. Unwilling to leave his girlfriend in the hands of the police, Swan launches a brutal series of attacks in San Francisco to get her back. With no support from his superiors, Nettles teams up with Frank Glass ( Steven Seagal ), head of the Bomb Disposal Unit, to stop the insane Swan…
Steven Seagal in an unexpected double role — but nothing more
In the official FILMSTARTS review , «Ticker» received a catastrophic 1 out of 5 possible stars. Author Björn Becher writes: “’Ticker’ is an extremely cheaply produced low-budget strip. Cranked in just 12 days, Albert Pyun’s work is never to be seen, which is why the InternetMovieDatabase is showing him a $25 million budget. […] Most of the scenes are produced as cheaply as possible. In some cases, entire passages were not reshot at all, but simply taken from old films.”
This brings us to «Ticker» in the realms that Steven Seagal is now firmly associated with. The fact that you always notice the film’s enormous budget limitation also leads to one of the worst blue screen scenes ever : In one scene, Hopper and Pressly are driving together in a car, but according to the director, the two never met during filming hit — and you can see that in this cruelly tricked scene!
Otherwise, the story is incredibly lame and the action is simply interchangeable from start to finish. The most interesting thing about “Ticker” is that Steven Seagal has a double role. In order to notice this, however, you have to follow the film with great concentration : In one scene, Seagal and Sizemore enter a bar where a blues band is playing music. For a brief moment, the band’s lead singer can be seen — and it’s actually Seagal! But if you think that Seagal will be on stage again during the course of the film or the scene, you are wrong. Instead, the frontman is simply missing again afterwards.
