Studio Ghibli
+++ Opinion +++
If you ask me what my favorite film is, I can never answer that question satisfactorily. There are simply too many equal candidates for that. But back when I started as a volunteer at FILMSTARTS and was asked to name my three favorite films, 1997’s ” Princess Mononoke ” was one of them. The beautiful and deeply humanistic anime can be disturbing for children due to its brutal and sometimes very disgusting scenes (it has an FSK rating of 12+) , but adult fantasy fans who don’t know it yet should take advantage of today’s TV broadcast.
“Prinzessin Mononoke” will be shown on ProSieben Maxx this Friday, March 18, 2022 at 8:15 p.m. Alternatively, you can currently stream the film on Netflix or buy it on Blu-ray or DVD.

That’s what “Princess Mononoke” is about
When a rampaging boar threatens to attack a village, the brave warrior prince Ashitaka manages to defeat him in battle. But the young man injures his arm and is covered by a deadly curse. Ashitaka then travels across the country in search of a cure and arrives at a settlement whose residents are cutting down their nearby forest, threatening the animals’ habitat. Wolf goddess Moro and her human foundling San (the eponymous princess Mononoke) wage war together with their pack against the destructive humans.
As an outsider, Ashitaka suddenly finds himself between the fronts. Does he join San and her wolves or the humans who also have existential reasons for deforestation? In the end, does San even manage to mediate between the two parties? It won’t be easy, however, because both the animals of the forest and the people have long since fallen into hatred and show no interest in a peaceful solution.
