film movement
Fast- paced, explosive action , stylish slow-motion shots, pigeons fluttering through the screen and a hefty degree of violence: director John Woo ‘s style is well known to those interested in film. And while his spy actioner Mission: Impossible II is arguably the most controversial installment in the Tom Cruise saga, Woo enjoys genre classics like A Better Tomorrow , Hard Boiled , and the insane action ride Face/Off . with John Travolta and Nicolas Cage an excellent reputation among genre fans.
However, his hard-hitting 80s hit » Blast Heroes » is one of Woo’s less well-known films in this country — even though it offers Woo’s patented action style in its purest form. This can probably be explained by the fact that the film was on the Index for 25 years — and that in a version that was drastically cut by more than eleven minutes! In the meantime, however, «Blast Heroes» has been released uncut from the age of 18 and even recently appeared in a regular, inexpensive home cinema edition.

«Blast Heroes» was reissued uncut in autumn 2021 — albeit in elaborate and strictly limited collector’s editions, which are now all sold out in the usual online shops and are only offered second-hand at high prices. John Woo’s Actionfest is finally being brought to a larger audience thanks to the Standard Remaster .

The tricky job soon turns out to be a potential suicide mission, because not only Samton’s henchmen, but also the locals and the men of a bloodthirsty Vietnamese colonel fight back and show no mercy…
