Update March 31: Entertainment Weekly learned from a source that a different version of the episode was accidentally uploaded to Disney+. The reason should have been the correction of a credit. Work was being done to put the original version of the episode back in place. Our original message follows.
In the third episode of the Marvel series The Falcon And The Winter Soldier , released April 2, 2021, the corpse of Hydra scientist Wilfred Nagel can be seen lying on the ground with blood on his shirt, mouth, and around his head lies. In addition, a bounty hunter is hit by a pipe and is pinned to a container in this way. At least that’s how it was in the original version of the episode.
No more blood and the pipe will now bounce
Sometime after the episode aired, both scenes were defused. We don’t know when, as Disney and Marvel haven’t publicly announced or explained that decision. This was done in secret — and underestimated the watchful eyes of Marvel fans. Reddit users Westerlies and Arkham4321 noticed that the blood in the scene with the scientist is now missing, while the thrown pipe now simply bounces.

You can watch the now defused scenes in the third episode («Power Broker») at 35:27 and 37:44. We couldn’t make a direct comparison ourselves, but the published evidence is clear. We reached out to Disney for comment. Our freelance author Sidney Schering writes about the case on Twitter :
Just the tip of the iceberg?
Sidney writes: «I don’t want to know how often something like this happens in streaming with titles with a less vigilant fan base and therefore goes unnoticed.» With this, the self-confessed fan of physical media is pointing to a fundamental problem in connection with streaming services. The intrusion might not be considered significant in the case of the Marvel series, but providers like Disney+ and Netflix have a problematic amount of control over the exclusive titles in their catalogues.
Series like «The Falcon And The Winter Soldier» or the Marvel reboot » Moon Knight » with Oscar Isaac are not available on Blu-ray. If they are subsequently changed — for whatever reason — there is no longer access to the original version. «The Falcon And The Winter Soldier» is not an isolated case.
i.a. the Tom Hanks comedy “Splash” was also changed ( buttocks and breasts are not allowed to be seen naked ) and according to cut reports, a full three minutes of violence were cut in ep. 4.22 of “Marvel’s Agents Of SHIELD”. In contrast to «The Falcon And The Winter Soldier», both titles are available on Blu-ray/DVD in their original versions.
