In » Officer Exchange «, John Cena plays a cop, known as a «wrecking ball» because of his methods, who has to team up with an Indian colleague against his will. Together, the unlikely duo must hunt down a diamond smuggler ring in India.
That sounds a lot like the buddy cop culture clash concept of the » Rush Hour » trilogy — certainly no coincidence. Finally, the series with Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan was very successful. Cena will co-direct the project with The Suicide Squad producer Peter Safran . The script is being penned by writers Ben Zazove and Evan Turner , most recently writing the upcoming Netflix action comedy The Out-Laws .

It’s still unknown who will direct and who we’ll see alongside Cena. «Officer Exchange» is implemented by Amazon Studios. It is not yet known whether the action comedy will appear directly on the Amazon Prime Video streaming service or whether it will be released in cinemas beforehand. On the other hand, we have an assumption as to why the film will take place in India…
India: Currently the country for exuberant action cinema
Because India is currently the source of numerous big-picture action blockbusters that are making headlines and full cinemas not only in their homeland but worldwide. Most recently, the “ RRR ” that started at the end of March broke several records. In Germany, too, the (few) screenings of the – by the way, really strong and worth seeing – action hit were well attended. In fact, in the US, «RRR» had the best opening weekend grossing per theater of any film that ran nationally that weekend.
The calculus behind «Officer Exchange» could therefore be to benefit from the Indian boom with a prominent Indian star at Cena’s side. It is not yet known when » Officer Exchange » will be released in cinemas or on Amazon Prime Video .
