If you ask Bruce Willis fans what the action star’s best film is, the answer will be overwhelmingly ‘ Die Hard ‘. While the actor — who recently retired due to health issues — has had a slew of films from the outstanding to the masterful (Pulp Fiction, 12 Monkeys, The Sixth Sense), Die Hard is easy the formative masterpiece in the CV of the Hollywood star who was born in Germany.
The 1988 cult classic defined Bruce Willis’ screen persona and made him one of the most sought-after performers of the ’90s. Today «Die Hard» runs at 8:15 p.m. on RTL Zwei. But be careful: This is the edited version for ages 12 and up.
Compared to the FSK 16 theatrical version, only about a minute is missing (most of the particularly gory shots were removed) and “Die Hard” is a very good action film in the 12+ version too. But the lack of harshness weakens John McClane’s daring rescue operation a bit, which is why we definitely recommend the uncut version.
The repeat of «Die Hard» runs on Sunday at 10:30 p.m. on Kabel Eins and thus after 10 p.m., which is why the FSK 16 version can be shown. If you can’t keep this date, you can also stream «Die Hard» uncut on Disney+ or (at an additional cost) on Amazon Prime Video :

New York police officer John McClane (Bruce Willis) actually wants to spend Christmas with his children, which is why he visits his estranged wife Holly ( Bonnie Bedelia ) in Los Angeles. But at their company party, which takes place in Nakatomi Plaza, the skyscraper is taken over by terrorists led by Hans Gruber ( Alan Rickman ). While he gets hold of Holly and the other employees, John is able to escape.
