» The Batman » had a strong third weekend at the worldwide box office: The DC film proved to be a real long-running hit, especially in the USA, so that even the rather meager revenues from China (only 12.1 million dollars at the start) made the joy in the Warner headquarters should have suppressed only a little. Overall, «The Batman» now has worldwide box office earnings of $598 million (as of March 21, 2022).
But just under 600 million will not be the end of it: As the US industry magazine Deadline writes, «The Batman» is currently well on the way towards the 750 million dollar mark and beyond.
This is supported by the fact that «The Batman» broke very little again on the third weekend and recorded just under 45 percent less than a week ago. For a major superhero blockbuster, which typically rakes in a chunk of cash in its first weekend, that’s strong value.
Will Batman still beat James Bond and Vin Diesel?
«The Batman» is already in the top 5 most successful Hollywood films of the pandemic and could ultimately even be » Fast & Furious 9 » (726 million dollars worldwide) and » James Bond 007 — No Time to Die » (774 million) . surpass those currently in 3rd and 2nd place in this ranking.
However, 1st place remains out of reach — and that even very clearly. Even if The Batman were to surpass No Time To Die and hit $800 million, the film is still more than a billion (!) dollars behind Spider -Man: No Way Home . With a sensational $1.885 billion, the new MCU adventure is number 6 in the list of the most successful films of all time, despite the pandemic.
More than a million viewers in Germany
In Germany, too, «The Batman» was able to defend number 1 in the cinema charts and fend off the restart «Die Gangster Gang». 205,000 tickets were sold last weekend, and a total of 1.15 million people have now seen «The Batman» in this country.
«The Batman» is currently the fourth most successful cinema film in Germany in 2022 behind » Sing 2 «, » Beautiful » and » Uncharted «. However, all three films could still be within reach if the DC film continues to do so well in Germany.
