“The bursting open of the Marvel Cinematic Universe”, as author Christoph Petersen calls the film in the official FILMSTARTS review for “Spider-Man: No Way Home” , is not only immensely funny, but also dark, even sad at the right moments – and comes up with one or the other element of surprise, which made many fans cheer sky high in the cinema.
The conclusion of our review leaves no doubt that there is simply no getting past this film for superhero fans: “‘Avengers 4: Endgame’ has taken the first steps, but only ‘Spider-Man 3: No Way Home’ shows , what is actually narratively possible in the superhero genre. A meta-enjoyment that transcends the franchise boundaries with a pleasant nonchalance – terribly entertaining, playfully clever, emotionally tragic, always surprising.”
