After » Queen Of The South » Season 5 was already broadcast on the US pay channel USA Network between April and June 2021, Season 5 has finally arrived on Netflix . But that’s the end of it: There will be no sixth season of «Queen Of The South».
The reasons for this are not only in terms of content: «Queen Of The South» season 5 ends after a decent cliffhanger about the supposed death of the main character Teresa Mendoza ( Alice Braga ) with a happy ending, which already indicates that no further relays more coming.
But if they are successful, TV stations and streaming services themselves continue mini-series that should only get one season, so that alone would not be an obstacle in the case of «Queen Of The South». And an explanation to continue the story of Teresa would certainly have been easy to find. So the real reasons lie elsewhere.
That’s what’s behind the dismissal
We already wrote it in the introductory paragraph: «Queen Of The South» is not a Netflix original, but only runs outside the USA on the streaming service. The series was actually produced for USA Network and it was up to the broadcaster to decide whether to cancel or extend it. And USA Network is currently dropping series after series.
Because the channel is currently in a restructuring phase, in which USA Network’s offer is increasingly moving away from long-lived scripted series such as «Queen Of The South» to reality TV, television events, live broadcasts (such as wrestling) and sports should develop. That’s why USA Network has already discontinued the series » The Sinner «, which also ran on Netflix in this country.
Replacement at Netflix
So if you want more after Queen Of The South Season 5, you’ll have to look elsewhere. A good example is the Spanish-language series » La Reina Del Sur «, which is the basis for «Queen Of The South» and in which Kate del Castillo («Bad Boys For Life») plays the character Teresa Mendoza.
Netflix also has three seasons each of the highly acclaimed and award-winning series “ Narcos ” and “ Narcos: Mexico ” and numerous documentaries that are similar in terms of content and topic.
