Yes, those responsible for the program calculate that they will reach a larger audience at 8.15 p.m. than after 10 p.m. — and that is why they prefer to show the FSK 16 blockbuster » Django Unchained » (4.5 million cinemagoers in Germany alone) cut to prime time than in its regular version at a later hour.
But while you might have been able to understand that at the TV premiere, this is now at least the eighth broadcast of the Quentin Tarantino flick – and you could maybe do without the spaghetti western homage for one Handful of viewers more in 21 places (!) to shorten a total of 4 minutes (!!)…
These scenes are missing on ProSieben
ProSieben had the current, massively shortened TV version made for the free TV premiere in 2015 — and since then has apparently seen no reason to do without it for further broadcasts. The 21 cuts are mostly very short moments, often less than a second long — you don’t see blood squirting after a shot (and it squirts a lot, Quentin Tarantino sees his film as a bow to spaghetti -Western genre and no prisoners were taken in that after all).

But there are also two sequences in which long passages were cut from the film: one is the gruesome Mandingo fight when plantation owners Calvin Candie ( Leonardo DiCaprio ) and Amerigo Vessepi ( Franco Nero ) kill two to the amusement of the white viewers set black slaves against each other in a life and death struggle. At this point, more than a minute is missing — which is particularly annoying these days, because the inhuman cruelty towards the slaves (at least in its full hardness) just lands on the floor of the editing room.

In the finale, which is (actually) filled with blood fountains, a total of around two minutes are missing — which trims the (deliberately exaggerated) violent overkill into an average western showdown. The cut «Django Unchained» version really doesn’t have much in common with the original vision, at least from here on out.
That’s what the authorities say
In a blog entry at the time, the testing agency justified the fact that the abridged «Django Unchained» version was waved through by the voluntary self-control television (FSF) for broadcast at 8:15 p.m. Still, it remains a violent film in typical Tarantino style. But it is estimated that 12-year-olds and over can already recognize the exaggeration of violence and the exaggeration of the characters as such […].”
The FSF is more or less the television equivalent of the FSK, but usually does not check films that already have an FSK seal. Exceptions, however, are newly made cut versions, because here it must be ensured that the result could actually receive a lower age rating.
«Django Unchained» uncut on ProSieben
As is so often the case, ProSieben shows the uncut version of “Django Unchained” at least in the repeat – at 1:45 a.m. next night from Friday to Saturday.
