HBO Max / Netflix
We regularly tell you which big and/or recommended new releases you can stream on Netflix starting this week . As usual, Friday is the busiest day, before this time fans of the true crime genre in particular will get their money’s worth.
We can’t recommend anything to you today. You probably already have other titles on your watch list.
Tuesday: New Nazis, old thoughts
Luna Wedler from “ The most beautiful girl in the world ” and “ Biohackers ” plays a young woman who becomes politically radicalized: In “ Je Suis Karl ” her character Maxi joins a group of the New Right – right-wing extremist ideas are no longer in this trend only bellowed dullly, they are formulated eloquently by students like Karl (Jannis Niewöhner). The appeal of this movement also lies in the fact that Karl and many of his comrades present themselves in a hip and modern way, instead of appearing with bald heads and bomber jackets.
Our review of “Je Suis Karl”
«Je Suis Karl» is worth a look just because of the topic and the always strong Luna Wedler. However, the film did not convince our critic Björn Becher. In the conclusion of his criticism, he writes: «Due to the rarely convincing implementation, ‘Je Suis Karl’ has a massive credibility problem, which is doubly serious here because it almost negligently downplays the clout of the Identitarian movement.»
Wednesday: Tasty and expensive crimes
Spectacular crimes that are processed in elaborate documentaries such as thrillers are all the rage at Netflix. The eating habits of the delinquents have not been referred to in the title of either “Tiger King” or “Tinder Swindler” – but for some reason it is different in the mini-series “ Bad Vegan ”. In any case, it’s about the restaurateur Sarma Melngailis, who founded popular vegan restaurants in New York and then — true crime fans already suspect it — was arrested for fraud in 2017.
