“ The Fabulous World of Amélie ” is pure cinematic poetry. The fact that this sentence rhymes is coincidental, but still symbolic of a film in which everything just fits together. The melancholic, luxuriant piano score, the brightly colored palette, the playful staging, the mix of romantic longing and childish fantasy, the chaos of strange everyday situations and the engaging charisma of the cheeky main character: all this makes “Amélie” a perfect film for rainy days Afternoon that feels like a blanket and warms the heart…
…or as author Enno Park writes in his 5-star FILMSTARTS review: “’The fabulous world of Amélie’ is full of lightness and poetry, full of pain and happiness. […] An overflowing cornucopia of brilliant ideas, poetic moments, wonderful images and often funny, often philosophical dialogues.”

This is “The Fabulous World of Amélie”
Amélie ( Audrey Tautou ) is unlike most people. In order to repress her traumatic childhood, she flees into her own world and often fantasizes that her surroundings are more colorful and exciting than they actually are. So she goes about her everyday life as a waitress in a small Parisian café, always keeping an eye on the many little stories that are going on around her. But even if everything seems fine on the surface, Amélie is very lonely. Because love just doesn’t work out.
But then one day she meets Nino ( Mathieu Kassovitz ), who, like her, finds a lot of beauty in the small things of everyday life. The two seem made for each other and Amélie falls head over heels in love. But how can she approach Nino without messing everything up? A tricky tightrope act in which Amélie gets into trouble again and again…
