John Woo has always had a bad standing with the German youth protection authority FSK. Virtually his entire Hong Kong oeuvre, from «Hard Boiled» to «The Killer», was — if at all — only published in extremely shortened versions in this country. When Woo then set off for the United States, this trend initially continued seamlessly: The 1993 publication “ Harte Ziel ” with Jean-Claude Van Damme quickly made its way onto the index in Germany.
In the meantime, however, the grandiose action fireworks have been rehabilitated and given an FSK 18 rating. The only problem is that it is currently proving to be relatively difficult to get hold of the film’s Blu-ray. But before you despair, you can now easily switch to Amazon Prime Video , where «Hard Targets» is now included in the subscription. The version available here is the uncut US unrated version.

That’s what «Hard Targets» is about
A game that is as macabre as it is sadistic is taking place on the streets of New Orleans. A powerful crime syndicate led by the ruthless Emil Fouchon ( Lance Henriksen ) is on a relentless hunt for homeless people who can earn $10,000 if they reach a specified destination alive. When her father is killed during one of those hunts, Natasha Binder ( Yancy Butler ) investigates.
She is supported by the unemployed sailor Chance Boudreaux ( Jean-Claude Van Damme ), who accompanies her for two days for a handful of dollars. During their investigation, the two find out that the manhunters will soon be choosing their next living targets — and together with Chance, Binder ends up in the crosshairs of the scheming gangsters…
