With » Payback » a revenge thriller is now available in the Amazon Prime Video subscription , in which «Lethal Weapon» star Mel Gibson is not good at eating cherries. This is a remake of the novel of the same name (original title: «The Hunter»), which already formed the basis for the 1960s classic » Point Blank «, in which Lee Marvin once set out on a relentless vengeance campaign.
Incidentally, the Prime subscription now includes the theatrical version of «Payback», which is characterized by an ice-cold blue filter for stylistic reasons. The Director’s Cut, which received an FSK 18 rating and sometimes differs greatly in content from the theatrical version, manages without this filter and is even 11 minutes shorter (!) than the theatrical version. That’s what «Payback» is about
After a successful robbery, Porter ( Mel Gibson ) is betrayed by his partner Val Resnick ( Greg Henry ), who not only cheats him out of $70,000, but also out of his wife, Lynn ( Deborah Kara Unger ). Porter is left presumed dead at the scene with a bullet in his back, but Val and Lynn figured it out without the tough dog.
A Deadly Mistake: Porter launches a relentless vendetta to take back what is rightfully his. It doesn’t take long for him to locate Val and Lynn. However, they can’t give him any money because Val bought himself into a crime syndicate with all the loot. But Porter remains true to his principles and continues his bloody campaign undeterred…
