Carlotta Films / Netflix
+++ Opinion +++
How fortunate that there are DVDs, Blu-rays and streaming services. Because they are the paths that lead us to films, no matter what the date. Because as beautiful as the path called «cinema» may be and as practical as the path called «television» can be — from time to time they get blocked. Because of such barricades , the comedy cult classic » The Life of Brian » is in the headlines year after year — because the incomparable long-running hit by the comedy troupe Monty Python is «not free of holidays» .
Therefore, «The Life of Brian» may not be shown on television or publicly performed on high Christian holidays — although (or, let’s be honest: precisely because) it is particularly appropriate on these days. Luckily, this rule doesn’t apply to self-paced movie afternoons or movie nights, whether they’re initiated through physical media or streaming. The Life of Brian is currently available on Netflix and will be available on Good Friday — don’t laugh too loud for peace’s sake while watching. You don’t want to spoil it with any devout neighbors…
This is «The Life of Brian»
Jesus ( Kenneth Colley ) is a well-known man. But what is often forgotten: Brian ( Graham Chapman ) was born in his immediate vicinity, the son of a bossy, bickering mother ( Terry Jones ) who feels more shame for her offspring than love for him. As Jesus roams the land preaching and performing miracles in his adulthood, Brian sells snacks like ocelot ears, hated by the locals and introduced by the Roman imperialists.
