Arte celebrates its 30th anniversary
The reason for the broadcast on Arte is a special one: Arte is celebrating its broadcast anniversary with the premiere of “Flee”. Exactly 30 years ago, on May 30, 1992, the Franco-German broadcaster was launched.
This anniversary is now being duly celebrated with «Flee», because the documentary film is an outstanding work of cinematic art that could well have been made into the cinema and was just nominated for three Oscars, namely in the categories «Best International Film», «Best Animated Film” and “Best Documentary”. “Flee” has won awards at the British Independent Film Awards, the Critics Choice Documentary Awards, the European Film Awards and the Sundance Film Festival, to name just a small selection.
That’s what «Flee» is about
Flee tells the story of Amin, who once fled his native Afghanistan to Russia with his family and came to Denmark a few years later as an unaccompanied minor. Now grown up, he lives in Copenhagen as a successful scientist with his longtime partner Kasper, the two are planning their wedding. But Amin has not confided in Kasper with his true life story. In a conversation with filmmaker Jonas Poher Rasmussen, Amin works through his past and the question of his identity in “Flee”.
In our FILMSTARTS summary of » Flee » it says: «In his outstanding animated documentary film, Jonas Poher Rasmussen deals with the search for home, lost identity and coming to terms with the past.»
