In the early days of Netflix , a series about a women’s prison was one of the most popular content on the streaming service. But the days of ” Orange Is The New Black ” are over now and it’s time for a new approach. “ Hard Cell ” also takes place in a women’s prison, but the sitcom is implemented in the mockumentary style of “The Office”. Like in a documentary, the characters are placed in front of the camera and comment on what is happening. You can watch the trailer above.
That’s what “Hard Cell” is about
Laura Willis ( Catherine Tate ), head of a women’s prison, believes in the goodness of her inmates and uses unconventional methods. In order to make rehabilitation easier for the offenders, she wants to stage a musical with them. Of course, chaos is inevitable and not everyone involved is enthusiastic about the project. But Laura throws herself into the project full of enthusiasm and even has a film crew accompany it…
By and with “The Office” star
Hard Cell is a Catherine Tate one-woman show. The award-winning British comedian, best known for ‘Doctor Who’ and the later seasons of the US version of ‘ The Office ‘, is not only a creator, co-writer and co-director of the new Netflix series, she also acts in it also six different roles!
As you know it from Eddie Murphy in “The Prince of Zamunda”, Tate transforms into different personalities thanks to various costumes and make-up, including even a man, which is not so easy to recognize at first glance. No wonder, after all, such transformations are an expertise of the actress, who has already regularly demonstrated her versatility in her award-winning British comedy series “The Catherine Tate Show”.
