It’s been 32 years since » Dances With Wolves » was released in cinemas. Almost 20 years have passed since Kevin Costner’s last directorial work » Open Range «. But now the star wants to do it again as the director and leading actor of an epic western. So he was even willing to finance his “Passion Project”, which had been in development for years, completely in advance. But he doesn’t have to, because he has now found real Hollywood heavyweights as partners for the film entitled » Horizon «.
Hollywood giant Warner and the production company New Line, which belongs to Warner, are getting involved in Kevin Costner’s western project, which in terms of size and ambition has already been compared to «Dances With Wolves», which won seven Oscars. Both companies are familiar with such epics. New Line originally launched Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Warner has recently successfully brought “ Dune ”, “ Tenet ” and “ The Batman ” to cinemas, among others.

Epic Civil War Western: This is «Horizon»
Warner boss Toby Emmerich describes the project as an «epic western» with «ambitious vision that just had to be hit immediately. «Epic» is probably already in the story. The story will span a total of 15 years, play before, during and after the American Civil War and show the development and settlement of the American West.

The project is intended to show this time from many different perspectives, so that a large cast can be expected. The budget for this is not yet known. With Warner and New Line behind you, however, there is certainly financial leeway. The casting is currently underway, in late summer (last time it was August 2022) it should be filmed.
«Horizon»: Big in cinemas worldwide
Western fans can definitely look forward to it. Because after they should have already celebrated when the project was announced, a certain evaluation has now become very likely with the participation of Warner.
The studio should now bring «Horizon» to cinemas worldwide, so that we can really enjoy Costner’s new western anywhere on a big screen and with the best sound. It is not yet known when that will happen. Based on the current schedule, however, a theatrical release of «Horizon» at the end of 2023 seems possible.
