In “ Coming Home In The Dark ” it all begins on a lazy autumn day in a remote, scenic part of New Zealand. Here, married couple Alan ( Erik Thomson ) and Jill ( Miriama McDowell ) want to spend a nice day with their teenage sons Maika ( Billy Paratene ) and Jordan ( Frankie Paratene ).
At first everything goes as planned and the family enjoys a picnic in what they believe to be deserted nature. But suddenly the psychopathic Mandrake ( Daniel Gillies ) stands in front of them together with his taciturn henchman Tubs ( Mathias Luafutu ) and holds out a loaded gun to the family. Everyone’s life changes suddenly. What guilt did Alan take on in the past that caused Mandrake to act?
The psychological thriller «Coming Home In The Dark» celebrated its world premiere at the renowned Sundance Festival in the United States. After the film was shown at the Fantasy Filmfest in Germany in 2021, it will be released in 3 days, on April 14, 2022, with an FSK 16 rating on Blu-ray and DVD and as a strictly limited, attractively designed media book.

The horror is based on a short story
Coming Home In The Dark was directed by actor James Ashcroft , who has previously appeared in films such as Peter Jackson’s King Kong and the brutal sheep horror Black Sheep. The screenplay, co-written by Ashcroft with Eli Kent («Millie Lies Low»), is based on the short story of the same name by award-winning New Zealand author Owen Marshall.
