The crazy thing about it: The different personalities are in the same body and that’s why Oscar Isaac often argues with himself in the film. In the FILMSTARTS interview, the Marvel newcomer reveals why he needed his brother’s help for particularly difficult scenes and under what conditions he would slip on the Moon Knight mantle again.
MOVIE STARTS: What did you like best about “Moon Knight”?
Oscar Isaac: If I had to pick one thing that I really liked, it would be Steven Grant. Creating this character is something I’ve never done before. Finding his humor, his vulnerability. I really enjoyed playing him.
FILM STARTS: There are always scenes in the series in which you communicate with your reflection. How do you have to imagine that when shooting? You can’t be in two places at the same time…
Oscar Isaac: It was very challenging to find a way to shoot that. I didn’t want to keep switching back and forth. I stayed Steven for the first few months and after that we went back and I played the scenes as Mark. But as I got more proficient at it, I actually found it fun to keep switching between the two. In addition, my real brother [Note. i.e. Red.: Michael Hernandez ] and played my other self whenever I had such mirror scenes. That was really great.
MOVIE STARTS: Besides Moon Knight, is there another superhero you would like to play?
Oscar Isaac: No, I think I found my guy in Moon Knight, but you never know. I love that I found this character in the Marvel Universe. One that is so complex and that is more about the inner workings than what is happening around it.
FILMSTARTS editor Benjamin in an interview with Oscar Isaac
MOVIE STARTS: Would you like to play Moon Knight for multiple seasons or other MCU projects?
Oscar Isaac: There is no official plan for that yet. It all depends on how the series is received.
MOVIE STARTS: So you would be open to it, even if it were multiple seasons? After all, you have many other exciting projects…
Oscar Isaac: I don’t know, it depends on whether there’s a good story. You have to ask yourself: Is there another interesting story to tell? What would be the approach? I know I love playing this character. Exploring them again would be exciting, but the situation has to be right, the story has to be right.
