It would be an injustice to the popular Marvel film adaptations of recent years to dismiss them as watered-down heroic adventures. On the one hand there is still hammer-hard comic action from Marvel with series like “ Marvel’s Daredevil ” or cinema hits like “ Logan ”, on the other hand the adventures of Iron Man, Captain America and Co. don’t have to be overly brutal, to function or even be successful. The degree of hardness says nothing about the quality of a film anyway.
When it comes to “brutal Marvel films”, many fans certainly think back to the time before the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), to films like “The Punisher” with Thomas Jane or “Blade” with Wesley Snipes – or even “ Blade II «, with which the later Oscar winner Guillermo del Toro («Shape Of Water») delivered a spectacular sequel in 2002, which is even more popular with many fans than the legendary predecessor.
«Blade II» cut on TV
“Blade II” airs today, March 28, at 10:35 p.m. on Kabel 1 – and we think the vampire action game is just as worthwhile as its predecessor. The FILMSTARTS review gives both films 3.5 out of a possible 5 stars. However, this only applies to the unabridged version.
However, Kabel 1 is only showing the cut version of «Blade II» late this evening , as FSK 18 films are not allowed to be shown in full on television if they start before 11 p.m. We can’t say for sure how much is missing, but you won’t see the full load of vampire carnage.
We assume that the version that is shown will be the one that is missing a full four minutes according to Schnittreports.com . During the night, Kabel 1 still repeats the Marvel film in the uncut version, but only on Thursday at 1:25 a.m.
We therefore recommend instead simply buying the entire «Blade» trilogy as a set, which can finally be sold uncut in Germany after part 1 was removed from the index — and which is already available on Blu-ray for less than 20 euros.

That’s what «Blade II» is about
Wesley Snipes returns as a sword-wielding vampire hunter in Blade II! His mission: He should arrest the Ur-Reaper Jared Nomak ( Luke Goss ), who is responsible for a mysterious virus that can infect both humans and bloodsuckers.
Together with his old comrade Whistler ( Kris Kristofferson ) and a deadly group of vampires, Blade takes on the fight against Nomak…
In addition to Snipes and Kristofferson, the international star cast includes Hellboy actor Ron Perlman , «The Walking Dead» star Norman Reedus , martial arts ace Donnie Yen («Ip Man») and Thomas Kretschmann .
Incidentally, Marvel is currently working on a new “Blade” film – in which we will no longer see Wesley Snipes, but Oscar winner Mahershala Ali (“Green Book”, “Moonlight”) in the title role.
Confirmed: Blade is bumping into the Marvel Cinematic Universe
