With «Gladiator», Ridley Scott has achieved something groundbreaking: he brought historical and sandal cinema back to life in the early 2000s. A genre that was actually buried. As a result, the Oscar-winning filmmaker was also allowed to direct the epic Kingdom of Heaven , which will be shown on NITRO today, April 13 at 8:15 p.m. However, in order to be able to enjoy the film in its entirety, one point has to be considered.
The theatrical version, which is also being broadcast on free TV today, is only a truncated version of Ridley Scott’s actual vision. Although the 150-minute version is also a pretty visually stunning journey into the time of the Crusades , to really appreciate «Kingdom of Heaven» as a masterpiece, you have to take a look at the 190-minute Director’s Cut. You can get this on Blu-ray via Amazon, while the theatrical version is available with a Disney+ subscription.

On the dangerous journey, however, Godfrey dies in a fight and Balian, who increasingly feels the need to follow in his father’s footsteps, reaches Jerusalem on his own. Here the young man finds himself in the midst of the warrior’s vortex, rising from servant of King Baldwin IV to knighthood. For him, however, it is not about winning the war, but about mediating peace between the different religions…
