When ” Fantasy Island ” was released in cinemas in 2020, many viewers didn’t know what to do with it. As a horror interpretation of the underlying cult series of the same name, the film didn’t really have much in common with the original on the one hand, but on the other hand the horror aspect was also pretty tame. Nonetheless:
The worldwide gross of 48 million dollars is impressive considering the low production costs of just 7 million dollars. On DVD and Blu-ray, the respectable cinema entry was then joined by one or two dollars or euros – probably not least because an ace was shaken up for home cinema exploitation and with it an additional sales argument: the Unrated Cut.
So there is an extended version of “Fantasy Island”, but only the theatrical version is currently conquering the charts on Netflix . So if you want the full load of “Fantasy Island”, you have to look elsewhere – and you can get the Unrated Cut on DVD and Blu-ray as well as video-on-demand, for example at Amazon Prime Video.

In the end, everyone has to decide for themselves whether the unrated cut is worth it. In contrast to other alternative versions, the added value in this case is pretty limited…
This is what awaits you in the unrated cut of “Fantasy Island”
In terms of content, there are hardly any extensions worth mentioning: As in the theatrical version, the unrated cut goes to the paradise island of rich Mr. Roarke ( Michael Peña ), who fulfills his guests’ greatest wishes, dreams and fantasies – until one day a series of murders breaks the idyll on the remote island and a bitter fight for survival breaks out.
