When a prequel series to “ Supernatural ” was announced in 2021, there was initially trouble: Jensen Ackles will also be in this series again as Dean Winchester, but Jared Padalecki will not return as his brother Sam – and probably even knew that nothing from the project. This initially led to bad blood on Twitter, as Padalecki felt left out. But Padalecki and Ackles are not only screen brothers, but also friends, and so the dispute soon cleared up again – and the series project was quiet for the time being.
Until now, because there is good news: Casting for the series is progressing and now the main cast of “ The Winchesters ”, as the prequel will be called, has been announced. Meg Donnelly (“American Housewife”) will play the young Mary Winchester née Campbell, Drake Rodger (to be seen in a small role in “ The In Between ” on Netflix from April 8, 2022 ) John Winchester – and so do the parents from Sam and Dean:
But what is Dean doing in the series about his parents’ young years if he wasn’t even born at the time of the action? He will act as the narrator of the series and look back on his parents’ (love) story. Jensen Ackles is also on board as executive producer on The Winchesters.
Mary and John form a demon hunter team
According to The Hollywood Reporter , Mary Campbell, played by Meg Donnelly, is 19 when the series begins and has been battling dark forces for most of her life. When she loses someone close, she considers exiting the family business – until her father disappears, forcing her to lead a new team that includes newcomer John Winchester…
John Winchester has just returned from the Vietnam War. Back home, the unselfish and sane young man investigates his father’s past. His search for clues leads him to a secret organization and in the middle of a whole new war as a hunter.
Of course, we already know Sam and Dean Winchester’s parents from “Supernatural” itself – there we saw Samantha Smith as Mary and Jeffrey Dean Morgan as John in the roles of the older parents.
