Danny ( Alain Uy ), Hing ( Ron Yuan ) and Jim ( Mykel Shannon Jenkins ) are » The Paper Tigers «. The middle-aged gentlemen were best buddies as teenagers and avid students of their kung fu teacher Cheung ( Roger Yuan ). At a tournament that was particularly important for the trio, however, a big argument broke out, which meant the end of their close friendship.
About 30 years later, the men received the news of the death of their former sensei. When the three meet again at the funeral, they soon suspect that Cheung’s death may not have been right. They start investigating. When an assassin is sent to get them, their suspicions are confirmed. Can Danny, Hing and Jim put their petty differences to rest and recapture their previous fighting skills to find out what happened together?

Following a long and successful string of festival performances in North America and Asia, The Paper Tigers made its US cinema debut in May 2021. Now the martial arts fun is finally coming to Germany.
As a video-on-demand, the film can be purchased digitally from the usual providers from March 17, 2022 and then streamed immediately. On March 25, 2022, the «Collector’s Edition» in the media book, the regular Blu-ray and the DVD will be on the market. All four formats with FSK-12 approval can already be pre-ordered from online retailers such as Amazon:

Paying tribute to «The Karate Kid» and «Cobra Kai»
The Paper Tigers is directed, written and produced by Olympia, Washington native Quoc Bao Tran . After various short films, this is his first full-length project.
The title roles are played by Alain Uy, Ron Yuan and Mykel Shannon Jenkins. The best-known of the trio is probably Yuan, who not only has recurring parts in hit series like «CSI: New York», «Sons Of Anarchy» and «Prison Break», but also in big movies like «The Accountant», «Independence Day 2: Return» or most recently «Mulan» was at the start.
Uy has had multiple appearances on the Marvel series Helstrom and Season 2 of True Detective. He is currently in the Grey’s Anatomy spin-off Station 19. Jenkins’ biggest jobs to date have been on actioner Undisputed III: Redemption and thriller drama The Chain.
Also on the cast list is Yuji Okumoto from The Karate Kid II, in which he played the villain Chozen Toguchi. Recently, Okumoto reprized that role in Cobra Kai. There’s a nice, tongue-in-cheek nod to «The Karate Kid» and «Cobra Kai» in «The Paper Tigers» with the participation of Okumoto. The Californian has otherwise appeared in Christopher Nolan’s «Inception», «Pearl Harbor», «The Truman Show» and «Contact» in the cinema.
