Sometimes it’s hard to believe that movies starring an actor of the caliber of Al Pacino (“The Godfather,” “Heat,” “Scarface”) fade into obscurity entirely. However, it must also be said that in most cases this certainly does not happen without reason. “ Hangman – The Killing Game ”, which celebrates its free TV premiere today, March 14 at 10:15 p.m. on ZDF , is one such example. The dark serial killer thriller should primarily be of interest to fans of Al Pacino and “Star Trek” and “The Boys” star Karl Urban .
We don’t really want to recommend “Hangman – The Killing Game” to you, the reviews that the thriller has received are simply too average for that . But director Johnny Martin is also a real expert when it comes to pulling out interchangeable direct-to-video bangers. In addition to “Hangman”, which also did not come to the cinema, Martin has staged ” Vengeance – Path of Retribution ” with Nicolas Cage and the horror film ” Delirium “.

Veteran cop Ray Archer (Al Pacino) works for Homicide. Together with the profiler Will Ruiney (Karl Urban), he tries to finally put a macabre serial killer to work. What distinguishes him is that his cruel deeds are inspired by the children’s game “Hangman” and he has been terrorizing the whole city with it for some time.
The two investigators receive support from the journalist Christi Davies ( Brittany Snow ), whose goal is to finally get behind the identity of the mysterious and brilliant killer. The search for the culprit pulls the unlikely trio deeper and deeper into the killer’s abysmal pull. Eventually, Ray, Will and Christi come to a point where they realize there is no turning back from now on…
