Netflix
As Hwang Dong-hyuk revealed during an event at the MipTV series fair (via Variety ), he is working on a film called Killing Old People Club , or KO Club. The project is inspired by a novel by the famous Italian author Umberto Eco («The Name of the Rose»).
Dong-hyuk doesn’t reveal much yet. So far he has only written a 25-page so-called treatment. This is basically the preliminary stage to the screenplay, in which characters and story are already presented, but then the individual scenes and dialogues are still missing.
«Squid Game» maker believes: After that he has to hide from old people
But » Squid Game » fans should make a note of the title anyway. Finally, Hwang also has a few full-bodied announcements up his sleeve. The project will be «even more brutal» than «Squid Game» and «another controversial» work of his. He also fears that he will have to hide from old people as soon as the film comes out.
Together with the title, this allows at least a small conclusion to be drawn about the story. We are sure that the film title is to be taken quite literally and that a few people might form a club with the aim of eliminating old people.
Waiting for Squid Game season 2
Hwang Dong-hyuk did not reveal whether the project will come before a second season of «Squid Game». However, he made it clear that fans will have to wait a while for the series to continue. After his return to South Korea, he will start writing the second season. He hopes «Squid Game» season 2 will be available to stream on Netflix in late 2024. So that would be over two years to go (enough time to make the film before then).
By the way, the film could very well come to Netflix . On the one hand, there is already an established business relationship and Hwang Dong-hyuk is likely to present new projects to Netflix first. He also revealed that he was only able to do «Squid Game» with Netflix because no one else would have accepted the brutality. Then who but the streaming giant is better for a project that is «even more brutal».
After «Squid Game» things really get going: Netflix announces a major film and series offensive for 2022
