After the genetically generated Indominus Rex was introduced in » Jurassic World » and another, completely reinvented dinosaur can be seen in the sequel » Jurassic World 2: The Fallen Kingdom » with the Indoraptor, the third part will also be a new one — this time but not (!) invented — Dino up to mischief. It’s no longer enough to outdo one another with T-Rex and Co. with ever larger and ever more dangerous dinosaurs from sequel to sequel, which is why the Giganotosaurus celebrates its debut in » Jurassic World 3: A New Age «.
As part of an article on Empire , the Giganotosaurus, called Giga for short, is now being presented in a picture for the first time – at least in part. Because it’s so big, so gigantic, that it doesn’t fit in one picture.
This time, however, it is not a gene experiment within the story like it was with the Indominus Rex and the Indoraptor. The template is much more of a dinosaur that probably really lived in the Cretaceous period and of which remains were first found in the late 1980s.
Even today there is still no complete skeleton of the Giganotosaurus, so of course the «Jurassic World 3» makers have to take even more liberties with the implementation than they already do, because one can only speculate about many parts of the appearance.
Director compares the Giganotosaurus to the Joker
Above all, a comparison by director Colin Trevorrow caused a stir . He explains to him why he chose the Giganotosaurus:
«I wanted something that felt like the Joker. It just wants to watch the world burn.” Trevorrow is referring to a famous quote from Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight . So his new dinosaur is all about destruction and creating chaos.
The dinosaurs in the big city — and the return of well-known villains
The giga-dino also has a chance in unfamiliar surroundings. Because after the end of «Jurassic World 2» had already been teased, in «Jurassic World 3» we no longer see the dinosaurs on a remote island, but in the middle of our big cities.
A company whose name might only mean something to hardcore fans of Steven Spielberg’s “ Jurassic Park ” plays a role here: BioSyn. This is the competitor to InGen’s Jurassic Park operators that paid Dennis Nedry ( Wayne Knight ) to steal dino embryos in the very first film.
BioSyn – untrustworthy of course
In «Jurassic World 3», BioSyn is now commissioned by the various governments of the world to house the dinosaurs that have been gradually recaptured everywhere — including the Giga. As we know it from the «Jurassic Park» and especially the «Jurassic World» films, such a company is of course not to be trusted.
Trevorrow reveals to Empire about BioSyn and where all the captured dinosaurs are collected: «They claim it’s a research facility where they can study the pharmaceutical uses of the animals. But there are other things going on…

These «other things» are sure to add to the already existing chaos, requiring heroes old and new to work together to stop the dino destruction. In «Jurassic World 3», Claire Dearing ( Bryce Dallas Howard ) and Owen Grady ( Chris Pratt ), known from the two predecessors, fight with the original «Jurassic Park» trio Ian Malcolm ( Jeff Goldblum ), Alan Grant ( Sam Neill ) and Ellie Sattler ( Laura Dern ) side by side. They are joined by newcomer Kayla ( DeWanda Wise ). The ambitious BioSyn employee Ramsay Cole ( Mamoudou Athie ) also plays an important role .
On two different cover variants of Empire magazine we see the main characters with some dinosaurs. On cover 1 the original «Jurassic Park» trio, on cover 2 Claire and Owen with the two new additions.
Jurassic World 3: A New Age is slated to hit theaters on June 9, 2022
