After causing quite a stir in 2017 with their Martin Scorsese homage » Good Time » and leading actor Robert Pattinson mercilessly rushing through New York’s nightlife, the big hit followed just two years later. IndieWire Editor-in-Chief Eric Kohn has found out that the Safdie Brothers and Adam Sandler are reportedly working on a new project. What this is about is not yet known. In addition, there has been no official confirmation that the trio will be back together after «The Black Diamond» and the short film «Goldman v Silverman».
Josh and Benny Safdie are currently busy directing The Curse , starring Emma Stone and Nathan Fielder, for Showtime. This is a comedy format in which a newly married couple (Stone and Fielder) deal with an alleged curse that is said to weigh on their relationship in their own television show. A release date is not yet known.
Adam Sandler, on the other hand, has just wrapped up crime comedy Murder Mystery 2 , which is expected to hit Netflix in early 2023 (before that, sports drama Hustle hits Netflix on June 10, 2022). The predecessor, “ Murder Mystery ”, is one of the streaming service’s most successful films. The sequel is directed by Jeremy Garelick («The Best Man Inc»), while James Vanderbilt («Zodiac») is rewriting the screenplay.
So the Safdies and Adam Sandler would certainly find time on their calendars to work together again in the near future. Let’s see if it really happens. Incidentally, For Josh and Benny Safdie, «The Black Diamond» is a dream come true that they’ve been chasing for many years: ever since the brothers saw the 1990s hits «Billy Madison» and «Happy Gilmore,» they’ve been dying to do it comedy superstar Sandler. They contacted Sandler about The Black Diamond back in 2011, but received no response. Luckily that has changed.
