After Michael Bay («The Rock», «Bad Boys II») recently disappointed with his star-studded Netflix blockbuster «Six Underground», the Master of Disaster is now back on the big screen with » Ambulance » and does it once again living up to his nickname, as you can see from the FILMSTARTS review . The action cracker with Jake Gyllenhaal , Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Eiza Gonzalez is a 140-minute frenzy of movement that makes the cinema hall tremble with grandiose tracking shots and a sound design that goes to the core.
However, many moviegoers may not be aware that “Ambulance” is a remake. That’s no wonder, because the Danish original from 2005, which in this country bears the title » Ambulance — Save yourself, who can «, is not only fairly unknown, but also has a completely different focus than the remake. If you want to watch the template for Michael Bay’s orgiastic action-fest, you can currently do so with a Netflix subscription .

This is the model of Michael Bay’s «Ambulance»
Michael Bay’s «Ambulance» is about two brothers (played by Jake Gyllenhaal and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) who find themselves in an almost hopeless situation: After a bank robbery, they have to flee from the police and the FBI. As an escape vehicle, they have grabbed an ambulance in which the paramedic Cam (Eiza González) has her hands full saving the life of a police officer whom the two brothers had previously seriously injured.
Michael Bay stages this as a completely unleashed frenzy of movement that appears like a single showdown and gives the viewers little more than five minutes of breather in between. In the original by Laurits Munch-Petersen , on the other hand, the big guns are not brought out, instead “Ambulance – Save yourself, who can” sees itself as an intimate play with lots of black humor and a few manageable action interludes, like Michael Bay’s “Ambulance” in principle only the premise has in common.
Well then: «Godzilla vs. Kong 2» is coming — and that’s apparently the story
Here Paw Henriksen and Thomas Bo Larsen embody two brothers who rob a bank to enable their mother to receive vital treatment in Kiel. In Michael Bay’s Ambulance, Will Sharp, played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, joins the heist to pay for an expensive surgery for his wife. Munch-Petersen’s film then takes place exclusively and in real time inside the ambulance.
The conflict in this case is that Tim and Frank are locked in friction over whether to use the stolen money quickly to help their mother, or to support the heart attack patient who is in the back of the ambulance Medic Julie ( Helle Fagralid ) being treated. While Michael Bay lets it rip for almost 140 minutes, «Ambulance — Save yourself, who can» comes in just 76 minutes.
