Ryan Reynolds announced via Twitter that Shawn Levy is directing Deadpool 3 . In his typical fashion, he published a poster showing Deadpool alongside his characters from Free Guy and The Adam Project , noting that the third film in his Shawn Levy trilogy is “a small bit more violent”. After all, there should be a lot more blood in «Deadpool 3» than in the previous collaborations between the two Canadians.
With that, Deadpool 3 is finally moving forward after the project has been in development for a very long time. Despite being the first film in the series to be led by Disney and MCU boss Kevin Feige, Ryan Reynolds has previously pledged that the tonality will remain unchanged. Deadpool isn’t going adult all of a sudden. Nevertheless, the character should fit into the MCU, which Deadpool will certainly comment on extensively in the film.

The screenwriters Wendy and Lizzie Molyneux («Bob’s Burgers») originally developed a script together with Ryan Reynolds . With the signing of Shawn Levy, however, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick , the writers of the first two films, have been brought back and are set to do it again. It’s unknown whether they’re just revising the previous script or trying a completely new approach.
Therefore, it is not yet clear when the shooting will begin, so that no theatrical release date is known. With the announcement, however, progress is now being made, so that the next steps can be expected in the near future. At the earliest, «Deadpool 3» will not be in cinemas until the end of 2023 anyway, possibly not until 2024 or 2025.
The Adam Project , starring Ryan Reynolds and directed by Shawn Levy, is currently available on Netflix. Meanwhile, “ Deadpool ” is available on Disney+, where “ Deadpool 2 ” will also be available shortly (from March 18).
