As various industry journals are now reporting, Jason Momoa and AppleTV+ will soon be working together again. This is the eight-episode Chief Of War mini-series , in which Momoa takes on the role of the legendary warrior Ka’iana. For the Hawaiian DC star, this is a very special heart project, because the saga about Ka’ina is known to every child in Hawaii and is considered a real cultural asset. Of course, Momoa, who works on the script here, grew up with the stories.
This is «Chief of War»
Chief Of War is a historical epic set in 1795. The focus of the series is the warrior Ka’ina, who laid down his arms in the War of the Four Hawaiian Kingdoms and summarily retired from the Maui Army. Ka’ina chose to live a quiet and simple life as a fisherman. However, when Ka’ina became part of a prophecy that declared him the decisive figure in war, he was drawn back to the battlefield.
However, «Chief Of War» should not only be the obligatory heroic epic and battle painting, but also tell the story of the colonization of his homeland from the perspective of the indigenous people. The Hunger Games creators Francis Lawrence, Thomas Pa’a Sibbett (Braven) and Doug Jung (Star Trek Beyond) are collaborating on the screenplay with Jason Momoa. It is not yet known who will act as showrunner. Justin Chon is set to direct the first two episodes. A release date is not yet known.
