» La Abuela — She’s Waiting for You » begins in Paris. Here the lifelong dream of the Spaniard Susana ( Almudena Amor ) is being fulfilled when her modeling career really takes off. But then a call comes from a hospital in her home country. Pilar ( Vera Valdez ), Susana’s grandmother, has suffered a stroke and is in urgent need of help.
As a little girl, Susana lost both parents and was lovingly raised by Pilar. That’s why the young woman immediately sets out for Madrid to help her grandmother. The old lady is apparently mentally absent, does not speak and cannot take care of herself. All attempts to find a caregiver fail, which is why Susana takes on the job herself. She soon suspects that her grandmother may have developed supernatural powers and is pursuing a frightening goal…

After «[Rec 1 – 3]» comes «La Abuela»
The direction and screenplay for «La Abuela» come from Paco Plaza , who along with his friend Jaume Balagueró is one of the two masterminds behind the globally successful «[Rec]» horror series. Since then, Plaza has realized “Veronica – Playing with the Devil” and “An Eye for an Eye” alone.
Almudena Amor and Vera Valdez play the main parts in Plaza’s latest work. Valdez is a Brazilian living in France who worked successfully as a model for many years. Already in 1962 she made her screen debut in «Private Life» by the great Louis Malle and was also in his «The Irrlicht», which was published a year later.
For Amor, it is meanwhile the second major film role. Previously, she was successful in «El buen patrón» by Fernando León de Aranoa and was nominated for several major awards for her performance — including the Goya, the Spanish equivalent of the Oscar.
