Fans of JK Rowling ‘s «Wizarding World» and the film press were not nearly as enchanted by the «Harry Potter» prequels as they were by the stories about Harry, Hermione and Ron. Nevertheless, » Fantastic Beasts: Dumbledore’s Secrets » had a respectable theatrical start, at least in Germany . With over 720,000 tickets sold, the fantasy film took first place in the cinema charts and had the third best opening weekend since the beginning of the corona pandemic.
However, it is also the weakest German start of a «animal» film so far — and possibly the last. Because at the moment, given the response in other markets, it is unclear whether Parts 4 & 5, which were promised years ago, will really come. In this respect, it should comfort fans that «Dumbledore’s Secrets» would be a very worthy conclusion to the saga. Whether this is the case will affect the box office results in the coming weeks. Regardless: Impatient Hogwarts fans can already secure their copy of the potential series finale for home cinema .
