When the first information about “ The Man From Toronto ” became known, fans of gritty old-school action immediately tuned in to a brutal cinematic experience. After all, with «Killer’s Bodyguard» and «The Expendables 3» maker Patrick Hughes not only took a real genre expert on the director’s chair. With the commitment of action superstar Jason Statham , spectacular action and snappy jokes were actually inevitable. Today, however, the expectations of the film are completely different.
On the one hand, Statham already left the project because the production studio Sony didn’t have a hard-hitting action firework in mind, but an entertaining action comedy aimed at a younger audience. It remains to be seen how brutal the film will actually be — but the result will not be shown on the screen at all. As Variety is now reporting, the theatrical release on August 11, 2022 seems to have ended: Netflix grabs «The Man From Toronto» and will exclusively show the action film worldwide (except China).
