Netflix
Shortly after the release of Bridgerton season 1 on Netflix, it was announced that Regé-Jean Page would not be returning as Simon Bassett, Duke of Hastings in season 2. It was already clear that Simon and his wife Daphne ( Phoebe Dynevor ) would no longer be the focus of the plot in the new episodes, because the Netflix series is based on the novel series by Julia Quinn, in which each volume is about another Bridgerton sibling leaves — this time Anthony ( Jonathan Bailey ). But most of the characters then get subplots, and Daphne will be there again in season 2 – but not Simon.
Many fans should have hoped for a surprise cameo from Regé-Jean Page . The actor even teased the possibility in an interview. However, Bridgerton showrunner Chris Van Dusen confirmed to TV Line ahead of the season premiere that Duke Simon will not be making an appearance in Season 2.
But if Daphne is in Season 2 and Simon isn’t, does that mean the two are in some kind of trouble? Or that Simon is out of the country? No — here Chris Van Dusen gave the all-clear: «Right in the first scene of Season 2, Daphne mentions that she left her husband and baby at home to come to Eloise’s debut.»
Simon will always be part of Bridgerton
Van Dusen reiterated that Simon is still part of the Bridgerton world, even if you won’t see him this time: «We mention Simon. […] And he doesn’t disappear from the series universe either. Just because we don’t see him doesn’t mean he’s not there.»
Apparently they even tried to get a guest appearance from Regé-Jean Page, because Van Dusen also explains that «unfortunately» it didn’t work out that the actor would be part of the second season.
It can be assumed that the shooting star simply didn’t have the time to drop in on the shooting — after all, he has, among other things, taken on a leading role in the cinema fantasy film » Dungeons & Dragons «. But who knows, maybe in season 3 of “Bridgerton” it will work again with an appearance.
Bridgerton season 2 spoiler alert!
Since the showrunner talked about how Duke Simon’s absence would be explained in the new episodes prior to the start of the season, it’s no longer a big secret. But we’ve already seen Season 2 and can reveal that there’s at least one cute little compensation for not showing the Duke:
There are some scenes with his little son who is called August and is called Augie. The child was already seen in the trailers and we already strongly suspected that it was Daphne and Simon’s child — in the season it was then confirmed.
