And now that » The Lost City » has been shown in the USA as part of a festival and some special screenings, it’s also clear: Brad Pitt is the highlight of the film, which, even after his brief guest appearance, still convinces as a charming and funny adventure.
Good reviews for «The Lost City»
Accordingly, the first reviews of «The Lost City» are surprisingly positive, especially when you consider the somewhat eye-rolling response to the trailer. So far there have been no negative reviews on the Metacritic review platform, but instead eight positive ones and one mixed one (average rating 68 out of 100 points).
And Rotten Tomatoes currently has a very good rating of 88 percent positive reviews – with a total of 32 reviews and an average rating of 6.5 out of 10 (as of March 22, 2022). «The Lost City» is not a masterpiece or a potential Oscar candidate, but it is a feel-good film and great fun.
Two hours escape from everyday life
Variety ‘s Peter Debruge describes the film as a «lighthearted, two-hour escape that doesn’t take itself too seriously and delivers screwball rhetoric between Bullock and Tatum» and a «guilty-pleasure treasure hunt.» Debruge also draws – like many others – the comparison to the » Indiana Jones » series, because «The Lost City» also modernizes the time-honored and slightly outdated genre of adventure films.
The Wrap ‘s Martin Tsai also notes positively that The Lost City doesn’t fall back on the same racist stereotypes as its obvious role models (which also include The Green Diamond and The Nile Jewel ) . belong). The plot of «The Lost City»
Loretta Sage (Sandra Bullock) has had great success with her teary-eyed adventure novels, but her latest book has been difficult to work on since the death of her husband. When the novel is finally finished, Loretta is kidnapped during the promotional tour by eccentric billionaire Abigail Fairfax (Daniel Radcliffe), who believes she knows the whereabouts of the fabled Crown of Fire.
Alan (Channing Tatum) of all people comes to the rescue, winning the hearts of audiences as a model on the covers of Loretta’s books but having little in common with Dash, the tough protagonist of the novels.
