Sony still owns the film rights to Spider-Man and the comic book characters of the popular Marvel hero. While Spidey himself is part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) thanks to a deal with Disney, Sony is building its own cinematic universe with villains and anti-heroes from the stories of the friendly spider, which (at least for now) does without Spider-Man himself.
After the two » Venom » films and the forthcoming » Morbius «, the next station in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (SSU) has already been determined: a screen adventure about the legendary Spidey adversary Kraven The Hunter, which begins with «Kick-Ass» star Aaron Taylor-Johnson in the title role is slated to hit theaters on January 12, 2023.
FILMSTARTS video producer and comic expert Sebastian took this as an opportunity to introduce you to big game hunter Kraven alias Sergei Kravinoff in the video above and to give you an overview of all the information known so far about his long-planned cinema debut.
What awaits us in «Kraven The Hunter»?
Is Kraven, who is equipped with special abilities, really (already) a villain in his own film or is it rather an anti-hero like Venom ( Tom Hardy ) and Morbius ( Jared Leto ) before him? Will he meet Spider-Man, who is closely linked to his career? Does drama director JC Chandor («Margin Call», «All Is Lost») bring us closer to typical comic action as well as Kraven’s eventful family history? And who will Oscar winner Russell Crowe and the other already confirmed actors play? Sebastian explains and speculates all of this in his preview.
