After Apple recently celebrated a major prestige success with the Oscar win for » CODA «, the tech giant has now secured the rights to another potential hit for over 100 million dollars. Scarlett Johansson and Chris Evans return to the camera together for the first time since Avengers: Endgame in Project Artemis . Little is known about the plot of the film at this time. But according to Deadline , it is supposed to be set against the background of the space race that the USA and the Soviet Union fought in the 1950s and 1960s.
That also goes well with the casting: After all, we know the two stars as US figurehead Captain America and as Russian ex-KGB agent Natasha Romanoff from the MCU. So they could well embody the opposing sides of the conflict. Although we would be a little surprised if the American Johansson, after ten years in Marvel, would now choose a film in which she plays a Russian. After all, she has only just freed herself from this type of role. So we prefer not to interpret too much and wait for further official information.
As Deadline also reports: Jason Bateman , known from Netflix’s «Ozark», will direct «Project Artemis». The screenplay is by Rose Gilroy . Although she does not yet have any major titles in her vita, her mother Rene Russo is a well-known actress and also played as Thor’s mother in several MCU films.
Chris Evans is delighted
Chris Evans has already confirmed the news via Twitter and commented on it with the simple words «Very excited!»:
The Marvel superstar was supposed to be working with Scarlett Johansson again on another Apple production called Ghosted . But Johansson was replaced by Bond girl Ana de Armas and the Avengers: Endgame reunion became a Knives Out reunion. It’s nice that Apple has finally found a way to commit the two Marvel stars, who already harmonized so well in the MCU, to a joint film.
«Project Artemis» does not have a start date yet. The film will likely be released exclusively on the Apple TV+ streaming service . However, an additional theatrical exploitation such as the current Apple film «Macbeth» is also conceivable.
But no «Avengers» reunion: Marvel star gets out of new Chris Evans film – and is replaced by Bond girl
